The longest verse in the Quran and the reason for its descent

The longest verse in the Holy Qur’an deals with the issue of religion and the need to document it; it is the eighteenth and two hundred verse of Surat Al-Baqarah, called the Verse of Religion. This has important connotations because debt is a need, which is almost indispensable to many people,

and debt is one of the most important reasons leading to the growth of transactions and the movement of trade; not necessarily that everyone is able to work in trade, agriculture or other money To resort to debt; to fill his need in his trade, to This and other reasons,

God Almighty people for religiosity among them; to facilitate their transactions and trade, and investment of positive energies in society, and in order to develop the wheel of development and investment,

and in this God says:

[O you who beleive! When you contract a debt for a fixed period, write it down. Let a scribe write it down in justice between you. Let not the scribe refuse to write as Allâh has taught him, so let him write. Let him (the debtor) who incurs the liability dictate, and he must fear Allâh, his Lord, and diminish not anything of what he owes. But if the debtor is of poor understanding, or weak, or is unable to dictate for himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And get two witnesses out of your own men. And if there are not two men (available), then a man and two women, such as you agree for witnesses, so that if one of them (two women) errs, the other can remind her. And the witnesses should not refuse when they are called (for evidence). You should not become weary to write it (your contract), whether it be small or big, for its fixed term, that is more just with Allâh; more solid as evidence, and more convenient to prevent doubts among yourselves, save when it is a present trade which you carry out on the spot among yourselves, then there is no sin on you if you do not write it down. But take witnesses whenever you make a commercial contract. Let neither scribe nor witness suffer any harm, but if you do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So be afraid of Allâh; and Allâh teaches you. And Allâh is the All-knower of each and everything.]

As for the reason for this verse, the Imam al-Tabari narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, as Ibn Katheer and al-Razi mentioned; It does not exist now, it is in the process of being, but the audience of interpreters argued that the verse includes the sale of peace and loan known, and apply the provisions contained in the verse, the most important: documenting religion.

Interest from the verse of liability

Ayat al-Din carried the divine command to document and certify debts among people, because of the consequent protection of people’s money, which leads to the perpetuation of cooperation between members of the community,

and maintain friendliness among them, scientists have devised from this verse very important things, most notably :

  • This came with the provisions of the verse issued a call, and addressed to those who believe, and this is an indication is not hidden in the mobilization of the faith of Muslims to comply with the command of God, and the notice that the recoiling obedience to its provisions minus faith.
  • The verse affirms that Islam, in its legislation, is keen on worship; It is also keen on transactions to regulate people’s lives, including financial transactions, and economic relations.
  • The verse shows the sections of the debt, and proved its legitimacy, whether the price of a particular commodity, or a good loan, or deferred dowry, or the fare of a business, and all other types of debt within its legal controls.
  • The verse carried the permissibility of the sale of peace, meaning permissible to accelerate the price and delay the valuing eye, and in this says the Prophet peace be upon him: (who predecessors in something in a known agent, for a known time).
  • The verse revealed the reasons for the lack of boredom and documentation, namely: Foolish; does not improve behavior, weakness, and enter the young, and unable, such as disease or blindness and so on.
  • The meditator finds in Ayat al-Din and the following that the Islamic legislation is very careful to protect the rights of people, and their money, where I began to write them religion, testimony, and mortgage as guarantees for their money, so as not to go down the drain for forgetting or disbelief or disagreement about its value, and all this confirms the uniqueness of Islamic law in combining The interests of the world and the hereafter.
